Privacy Policy

This page explains what data Totally Sydney collects, how cookies and analytics are used on this site, and how our referral and affiliate links work. We've tried to write it in the same plain language as the rest of the site, though for a page like this, some formality is unavoidable.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages get read and how the site is used overall — things like which pages are popular, roughly where visitors are coming from, and what device or browser they're using. This data is aggregated and anonymised by Google's standard settings; we don't use it to identify individual visitors. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to do this. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or block cookies generally in your browser settings.

Cookies

Beyond Google Analytics, this site doesn't set its own tracking cookies. Third-party services we link to — including Amazon and Wise, covered below — may set their own cookies once you click through to their sites, governed by their own privacy policies, not ours.

Referral & affiliate links

Some links on this site are referral or affiliate links. Specifically:

Links to Wise on this site use a personal referral link. If you sign up through it, both you and we may receive a benefit (such as a fee-free transfer allowance), depending on Wise's current referral terms. We use Wise ourselves when travelling and link to it because we genuinely rate it, not just because of the referral arrangement.

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Links to Amazon on this site are affiliate links — if you make a purchase after clicking through, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Using either of these links never costs you anything extra — any commission comes from the retailer, not from an added markup on what you pay. We only link to products and services we'd genuinely recommend regardless of the referral arrangement, and sponsored links on this site are visually marked as such (a dashed border and a "handy for your trip" label) rather than blended into the editorial guides.

What we don't do

We don't sell personal data to third parties, and we don't run display advertising on this site. We don't collect personal information through the site itself beyond what's described above — there's no account system, and our newsletter signup (where shown) only collects the email address you provide.

Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
