How it compares to Bondi to Coogee
Where the Bondi to Coogee walk follows dramatic ocean clifftops through some of Sydney's busiest beach suburbs, the Manly Scenic Walkway runs along the calmer harbour side, through genuine bushland reserves between Manly and Spit Bridge — quieter, greener, and considerably less crowded, even in peak season.
What to expect
The full walk covers around 10 kilometres and takes roughly three to four hours at a comfortable pace, passing through harbourside bushland, small beaches, and several genuinely good lookout points back across the harbour toward the city — without ever leaving Sydney Harbour National Park's protected bushland corridor for long.

This walk passes through genuine bushland rather than urban paths for long stretches — wear proper walking shoes rather than beach sandals, and carry water, as shaded sections have fewer cafés or shops along the way than the Bondi to Coogee route.
Highlights along the way
- Fairlight Beach, a small, sheltered harbour beach near the Manly start, good for an early swim before the walk properly begins.
- Grotto Point Lighthouse, a short detour off the main track, with genuinely excellent harbour entrance views.
- Clontarf and Castle Rock Beach, both good rest stops roughly midway along the route.
- Views back toward the CBD and Harbour Bridge from several elevated points — a genuinely different vantage than any city-side lookout offers.
Don't want to do the whole thing?
The walk is easily split into shorter sections, with several access points along the way allowing a shorter loop back to Manly if the full 10km round trip (or one-way with a bus back) is more than you want to commit to.
Getting there
Start at Manly, reached by ferry from Circular Quay (see our Manly guide); the walk ends at Spit Bridge, where regular buses run back to the city.
