The Australian slang guide, Sydney with kids, and travel insurance are now translated into Indonesian, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
Seventeen of twenty-one, four to go
Remaining: time zone and daylight saving, drone and photography laws, short-term rental rules, and the working holiday visa guide. All four are genuinely more specialised than what we've covered so far, which is exactly why they were left until last.
A translation note worth sharing
The slang guide was the trickiest of this batch to translate well — by definition, it's full of English words and phrases that need to stay in English (since that's literally what's being explained) while the surrounding explanation switches language. Getting that mix right, rather than over-translating example phrases into something a visitor would never actually hear, mattered more here than in almost any other article on the site.
We also caught a small mistake in this batch before it went live — a stray English phrase left in the middle of otherwise fully Japanese sentence, similar to a couple of slips in earlier rounds. We're maintaining the same practice of scripted checks plus a native-reader-style re-read of every translated file before it ships, and it continues to catch real issues.
